When we talk about eating disorder, we spontaneously think about anorexia. Perhaps it’s important to remind that the number of people who suffer from binge eating disorder and bulimia are several and consequences of these pathologies on bodies are such important as consequences on an anorexic person’s body.

Here you are some examples!

Your dopamine level increase …

We already know, eat is vital !

When we are hungry, food brings pleasure.

Scientifically talking, when we eat, our body secretes dopamine, an indispensable neurotransmitter to the proper functioning of our brain and well-being.

Even if each food ingested releases this dopamine, food with much sugar and lipids secretes more. It can explain why people subject to bulimia crisis are more tempting for these foods than salads without sauce.

… and become an addiction !

You could think dopamine is a positive thing. The only trouble is our body gets used to a dopamine level, and to keep it up, it will need more.

If at the beginning you feel effect with on biscuit, you will quickly need two.

Like every dependance, you could rapidly be in withdrawal of sugar and fatty food. This need would be expressed by tiredness or irritability.

Like every addiction, succumb to it will give you a feeling of total happiness and satisfaction, and the descent is going to be hard.

You have unpleasant physical symptoms

After the great amount of food downed, your body must deal with the situation.

Abby Langer, dietician and nutritional advisor from Toronto, says:” When you overload your body in calories, sugar and fat, your energy level changes, your hormones fluctuate, you get more stressed and your digestive system aggravates.”

When you eat, your body concentrates a lot of energy on the digestion and people concerned, by this trouble, often feel tired and without dynamism.

You come in a vicious circle: crisis/restriction

According to specialists “Patients come in a vicious spiral with shame and culpability which make them starting drastic diets”.

In the end it causes compulsions.

Your stomach extends

Beyond effects on your brain, bulimia has consequences on the others part of your body. As you know, your stomach is the principal organ responsible for bulimia crisis. As health professionals explain : your stomach is elastic and able to draw out in order to receive food before digest it.

However, when you eat to much regularly, your stomach can draw out permanently. The more your stomach gets bigger the more you need food. And the cycle starts !

You lose the notion of satiety

When we eat, our body produces another hormone: the leptin, to indicate when we are hungry or not.

During bulimia or binge eating disorder food is eating to much quickly and plentifully to give the hormone time to act.

You disrupt the circadian cycle

It’s the beginning of the vicious circle!

You have heartburn and digestive problems

To digest, your stomach needs to produce hydrochloric acid. When you eat in great quantity all at once, your stomach will produce this hormone, which at the end causes irritations.

Moreover people subject to crisis are often victims of diarrhoea, constipation, cramps …

Diseases curable …
